Current Status
Where a member stands right now, for anyone who has already joined. Nine values, including three different ways of having left.
Current Status says where a member stands right now. It only applies to people who have already joined.
You will find it on the Chapter Membership record rather than on the person,
because it describes one membership. Its internal name in HubSpot is
current_status.
Lifecycle Stage says "this person is a member". Current Status says which kind of member they are today.
What are the values?
Nine, in the order HubSpot lists them.
- Active. A current, paid-up member in good standing.
- Approved Applicant. Approved to join, but not a full member yet.
- Grace. Their term has expired and the renewal is not paid, but they are still inside the renewal window. They keep everything: chapter access, events, forums. They still count in member figures. Renewing puts them back to Active, and letting the window close moves them on.
- Suspended. A temporary hold applied by EO, lifted once whatever caused it is resolved. It is not removal.
- Elumni. Someone who left in good standing and keeps an ongoing EO alumni relationship.
- Ended. The membership term finished, because it ran out or was not renewed. This one is about the record.
- Inactive. Still a member on paper, and still counted, but not taking part.
- On Leave. A pause the chair approved, with an end date. Dues and engagement are paused, and they are expected back.
- Ex-Member. The person is no longer a member. The catch-all, resignations included.
Three of these mean "no longer a member"
They are not interchangeable, and this is the part people get wrong.
- Ended is about the record. A term finished.
- Ex-Member is about the person. They are not a member any more.
- Elumni is about the relationship. They left in good standing, and EO keeps them.
Each answers a different question. Did the term run out? That is Ended. Are they a member? That is Ex-Member. Do we still know each other? That is Elumni.
Inactive or On Leave?
Both describe somebody who is not taking part, and they are also not interchangeable.
On Leave is the approved one. A chair agreed to it, it has an end date, and the person is expected back. Dues and engagement pause while it lasts.
Inactive has neither of those. No approval behind it and no end date. They are still a member and still counted, they are simply not turning up.
When do you change it?
When someone's official standing changes, and the chair has confirmed it.
Why "Elumni" and not "Alumni"?
Because EO spells it that way, everywhere. Elumni is EO plus alumni, and it is not a typo.
HubSpot keeps its own separate value called Alumni, so EO uses the branded spelling to keep the two apart.
Where do you go next?
- Lifecycle Stage. The field this one sits underneath.
- Lead Status. The same idea, for people who have not joined yet.
- FAQ. The questions chapters ask most often while they are going through the rollout.
